Racism today is alot more suppressed compared to racism in the past. Back then, there were seperate facilities, signs against colored people, and laws that backed up that ideal society. Southern states came up with a system with legal policies for racial discrimination. Blacks had a hard time voting, they were given harder documents to answer and literacy they didn't understand, nor sometime in the english language. There was the "Grandfather Clause" which stated white people could still be eligible to vote even if they didn't pay taxes if their dad, or grandfather was able to vote before January 1, 1867.

Mid-Term Exam Reflection

The score I recieved from this exam was a 20 out of 25. Questions 6,8,13,16, and 21, were all incorrect for the reason that I didn not have the knowledge to correctly answer them. I understood all questions thoroughly, but I didn't have the knowledge because I didn't study. I learned that as a test taker, if I would have studied, I could have got those questions correct. I also read the questions fast enough and once I see the correct answer i choose it right away and move on to the next question, when I should really read all the other possible answers. I am an average test taker.

"What examples from your years as a student are different from a student in the early 1900's? Whats still the same?"
"Not until the 1940s would public school education become available to the majority of black children living in the South"- Page 283 paragraph 3.
Personal voice on page 283 describes how cruel school can be to the students.
An increase of African American students in public schools by 1910 between the ages of 15-19. - page 284 1st paragraph
By 1900, not even close to a 3rd of the African American population was enrolled into college. - page 285, 1st paragraph

How did "The Jungle" affect the way Americans thought about the ways meat was produced?

Americans wanted someone to do something about the filthy meat packer production. After reading "The Jungle," Americans thought of the Meat company poorly. The unsanitary conditions that was exploited in the book, disgusted the readers, and of course would disgust anybody. Who would want to eat anything thats been infested with germs?

Upton Sinclair was a progressive. He wrote the book "The Jungle" which was read by many Americans. "The Jungle" made a huge impact to the Americans after learning what was happening to the meat they were buying. It became an issue big enough that President Roosevelt passed a law called the Meat Inspection Act. This was a progressive acheivement, if it weren't for the book that Sinclair wrote, we would all probably not know about it at all.
